A woman has been shot in the face and head in Townsville this morning.
A tradie who was working nearby told the paper he and his boss ran over after hearing a man, believed to be the woman’s husband, calling for help.
“We ran in (the driveway) and we could see her under the car,” he said. “(We) sprinted straight to the car and tried lifting.”
He said that’s when another man appeared and attacked them with a hammer.
“We could hear (the screams) for a while. We just thought it might have been kids screaming. Lucky we got there in time,” he said.
“There was blood everywhere. Blood all over the car, blood all over the ground. The gun was under the car. Which I didn’t know it was there, we had no idea there was a gun. It couldn’t have been worse.”
Paramedics assessed five patients at the scene. Four have been taken to Townsville Hospital, one in a serious condition with three others in a stable condition.
One man has been taken into custody. Queensland Police said the incident could be domestic violence related.
State MP Nick Dametto said he was “extremely concerned” to hear about the incident.
“Several injured, including a woman reportedly with gunshot wounds. Wish them all a speedy recovery,” he wrote on Twitter.
“Commend QPS for bringing this very serious situation under control in a timely manner.”
More to come.
